We feel very positive about these opportunities and the enormous potential of this region. Our high standards and profound expertise have made us extremely successful over the past 25 years – and we are confident that our future will be equally successful.

Challenging Business

Eastern Europe is undoubtedly still a challenging place to do business, and labour and management standards are not always equivalent to those in Western Europe. However, the main problems are not necessarily those one might expect, as crime, corruption and poor infrastructure are largely a thing of the past. But actively managing businesses – as opposed to simply making a capital investment – brings challenges of its own, and there is a certain amount of risk involved in making greenfield investments in agriculture in any region.

In-depth knowledge

Moreover, buying farmland in Eastern Europe requires in-depth knowledge of the legal and bureaucratic framework and expertise in regard to possible implementation strategies. The germanagrar group has successfully managed the purchase (as well as further associated transactions) of tens of thousands of hectares of arable land. Our ability to draw on this experience and expertise to the benefit of our clients has made us the leading authority in the field.

Today and the future

Today more than ever before, Eastern Europe offers greater potential than practically any other region in the world when it comes to sustainable agriculture or capital investments in agriculture. The current situation in much of Central and Eastern Europe is comparable to that in eastern Germany in the first years after German reunification. Now is the time to take advantage of the remaining opportunities, which will not be seen again.
